During the last months GEO-CRADLE has organised some important events, including the last Regional Workshop which took place in Istanbul, Turkey’s economic, cultural and historic center, and gathered diverse organisations along the data value-added service chain.
Another major event of this period was the organisation of the 3rd South-Eastern Europe GEO Workshop on the uptake of GEO and Copernicus, with emphasis on Climate Change, Food Security and Water Extremes, Raw Materials and Solar Energy with more than 100 participants in Thessaloniki.
In the meantime, GEO-CRADLE partners participated in several Workshops in the region, presenting the main outcomes of the project.
In the upcoming months you will find us at the Soil Congress Symposium in Rio de Janeiro from 12 to 17 August, at the EUROGEOSS Workshop in Geneva from 12 to 14 September, at the INSPIRE Conference in Antwerp from 18 to 31 September, and at the GEO Week 2018 in Kyoto from 29 October to 2 November, where GEO-CRADLE will present its Roadmap for the improved implementation of GEO/GEOSS and the increased uptake of Copernicus in the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa.

3rd South-Eastern Europe GEO Workshop, 4&5 June 2018, Thessaloniki, Greece

GEO-CRADLE organised the 3rd South-Eastern Europe GEO Workshop on the uptake of GEO and Copernicus, with emphasis on Climate Change, Food Security and Water Extremes, Raw Materials and Solar Energy.
Earth Observation (EO) data and services can support the informed implementation of numerous policies, help in addressing key societal challenges, contribute to achievement of Sustainable Development Goals and boost the EU economy’s competitiveness and growth. The importance of sustained EO data and innovative EO-based services becomes even greater in a period marked by the advent of Big Data – spearheaded by Copernicus free, full and open data policy, and the emergence of new business models. In this context, GEO-CRADLE has set out to develop a Roadmap for the improved implementation of GEO/GEOSS and the increased uptake of Copernicus in the Balkans, Middle East and North Africa. In this direction, the 3rd South-Eastern Europe GEO Workshop offered a prime opportunity for key players across the EO value chain (i.e. institutions, industry, users) to share their vision on long-term actions that will help to maximise the impact of EO and leverage EU investments!
The Workshop took place in Thessaloniki on 4 and 5 June 2018, kindly hosted by partner i-BEC.

GEO-CRADLE Regional Workshop, in the Middle East, 15&16 March 2018, Istanbul, Turkey

The last GEO-CRADLE workshop took place in Istanbul, Turkey, on 15 and 16 of March 2018, kindly hosted by partner TUBITAK UZAY, and gathered diverse organisations along the data value-added service chain. From research to market, the event introduced the Copernicus Sentinel Data Hubs whilst showcasing GEO-CRADLE’s project pilot results and user cases, highlighting the cross-sector cooperation on transversal topics such as water management, adaptation to climate change and food security.
The one-and-a-half day workshop was a great opportunity for both private and public stakeholders, for discussions on transformational issues affecting the uptake and use of geo-information services.
The roundtable discussions brought together confirmed operational users of EO services and data providers, as well as interested and potential users.
Furthermore, the event was showcased innovation incubators and Horizon2020 funding opportunities for stakeholders interested to develop geo-information services.

GEO-CRADLE Project Coordinator will participate in the conference by giving an oral presentation on "Coordinating and Integrating EO Activities in North Africa, Middle East, and Balkans. Accelerating the Development of Links with GEO / GEOSS / Copernicus and INSPIRE initiatives".

GEO-CRADLE will participate in the GEO Week 2018 which will take place in Kyoto from 29 of October to 2 of November 2018. We encourage you to join the GEO community, for GEO Week 2018 and the GEO-XV Plenary!
This gathering of GEO's 105 Member governments and 126 Participating Organizations will explore efforts and opportunities for the use of Earth Observations for the benefit of humankind, focusing on GEO's three priority areas: the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

GEO-CRADLE partners from NOA and TAU participated in the 3rd joint EARSeL/NASA LULC Workshop "Land-Use/Cover Change Drivers, Impacts and Sustainability within the Water-Energy-Food Nexus" on 11-12 July 2018 in Chania, Greece.
GEO-CRADLE partners presented:
A) the Soil Spectral Library which was created in the context of the GEO-CRADLE project in the region of Balkans, Middle East and North Africa, and
B) the SENSE system: Access to solar energy applications using EO data through GEO activities and the "Photosynthetically active radiation climatology in Greece for optimal vineyard planning and exploitation".
